Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation Announces Grants to Puget Sound Area Programs

The Weyerhaeuser Company Foundation today announced $100,000 in grants
to four Puget Sound area programs providing affordable housing and
shelter to families in King and Pierce counties.
Those receiving awards included:
- Habitat for Humanity of East King County - $30,000to
support Phase I of the new La Fortuna development in Renton that
provides urban living with an economical use of space, and will
provide permanent home ownership for 11 families.
- WS Housing Finance Commission - $25,000to support the
House Key Plus Down Payment Assistance program to help working
families unable to save the entire down payment on their first home.
- Building Changes - $20,000 to support the Washington Families
FundPierce County Employment Navigator Model. The program
helps connect homeless families with employment services to prevent
repeat episodes of homelessness.
- CH Development Association - $25,000 to support a resident
services coordinator to work with Central Seattle residents who are
struggling and at risk of homelessness but don't qualify for
traditional case management. The program helps these households remain
in secure housing and keep residents self-sufficient and stable.
The grants are in response to a Request for Proposal seeking
applications from programs aimed at providing affordable housing for
working families; enabling homeless families to achieve permanent,
stable housing; or effectively keeping families in their homes and
prevent them from becoming homeless.
'The Foundation recognizes there are several paths that address the
issue of housing stability and homelessness,? said Karen Veitenhans,
Foundation vice president. 'These grants will provide home construction
and ownership for multiple families, down payment assistance for first
time homebuyers, and fund unique supportive housing efforts that will
keep families in their homes and prevent repeat homelessness.?
The Foundation also announced an additional $250,000 in grants to
support longstanding partnerships with United Way in King and Pierce
County, and ArtsFund.
All grants were from the Foundation′s 2010 budget.
