ExxonMobil Branded Wholesalers to Donate up to $100,000 to Support Teachers and Children in Baton Rouge Elementary Schools

Two cents for every gallon of fuel sold at local Exxon- and Mobil-branded stations in November to be donated as part of a new community program
BATON ROUGE, La., Nov. 6, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- ExxonMobil's branded wholesalers, who supply fuel to Exxon- and Mobil-branded services stations in the Baton Rouge area, announced a new community program to help local teachers and children. During the month of November 2014, ExxonMobil's branded wholesalers will be donating two cents per gallon of fuel sold at local Exxon- and Mobil-branded service stations. The goal is to raise up to $100,000 to support select elementary schools in Baton Rouge. The initiative is part of an extended partnership between ExxonMobil and AdoptAClassroom.org to support local teachers, classrooms and math and science education across the United States.
ExxonMobil and AdoptAClassroom.org selected the Baton Rouge area elementary school grant recipients based on Title 1 status and the schools' proximity to select retail locations and ExxonMobil refineries. Each school will receive a donation up to $100 per class for up to 10 classrooms per school. Teachers from the selected schools will be encouraged to register classroom proposals for support online at AdoptAClassroom.org. ExxonMobil's Baton Rouge-area branded wholesalers will then make donations directly to registered teachers and classrooms.
AdoptAClassroom.org is a nonprofit organization that aims to empower teachers with the funds they need to purchase hands-on learning resources. The organization estimates that on average, teachers spend up to $1,000 in out-of-pocket expenses every year on supplies for their classrooms.
"ExxonMobil has developed a reputation for supporting education across the U.S., and we are excited to work with our branded-station owners to launch a program that will not only help Baton Rouge area teachers, but also elementary students," said Grant Doescher, U.S. Branded Wholesale manager. "Working with AdoptAClassroom.org gives our local retailers the ability to contribute directly to the welfare of their communities and increase the potential of students in their hometowns."
Announcements for each school receiving funds will be made on an ongoing basis throughout the 2014 school year.
The program, which was first introduced to ExxonMobil's branded wholesalers in Miami in April 2014, is being launched in Baton Rouge due to the company's long-standing relationship with its customers who supply fuel to Exxon- and Mobil-branded stations. For more than a century, ExxonMobil and Baton Rouge have partnered in many civic and community endeavors, including supporting area education. ExxonMobil employs more than 5,000 employees and contractors at eight facilities in the Baton Rouge area, helping to make it one of the largest and most versatile petrochemical hubs in the world.
