Chevron’s 2013 Fuel Your School Program Benefits More Than 900,000 Students in 16 U.S. Communities
Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and DonorsChoose.org today announced that the 2013 Fuel Your School program generated nearly $7.1 million in 16 U.S. communities, benefitting more than 8,000 local public school classroom projects, including more than 4,000 resources to support science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) curriculum, and impacting a total of 940,440 students. The program has grown each year to support students in various communities where Chevron has business operations. Since its inception in 2010, Fuel Your School has helped fund more than 17,000 classroom projects in the U.S.
Through Chevron’s 2013 Fuel Your School program, teachers at more than 2,500 public schools received valuable classroom resources. Kelvin Smith, a science teacher at Kipp Ways Academy in Atlanta, wants to see 100 of his students become engineers – an especially challenging goal since the Atlanta middle school could not afford lab equipment. Fuel Your School helped provide Smith with physical science lab kits to help him reach his goal.
“I teach in one of the most impoverished areas of Georgia but I teach students of limitless potential,” Smith said. “The lab equipment I requested will play a large role in making science more fun for my students and with helping the students learn physical science concepts.”

Fuel Your School is a part of Chevron Corp.’s multimillion dollar holistic education commitment to support educational programs, including those in STEM, that help increase access to and the quality of education and career and technical training at every level — from education to employment. To achieve this, Chevron works with education organizations, government officials, non-profit organizations and community leaders to develop and support innovative programs that invest in tomorrow’s workforce by educating students, supporting teacher training, providing classroom resources, supporting educational standards, funding out-of-school activities and preparing workers to excel in their jobs, including possible engineering positions at Chevron.
“Teachers spent on average nearly $500 of their own money last year on materials for their students,” said Charles Best, CEO of DonorsChoose.org. “Chevron’s innovative Fuel Your School program addresses the lack of adequate public school funding by helping equip and empower teachers to benefit students and improve education.”
Through the Fuel Your School program, $1 was contributed when consumers purchased eight or more gallons of fuel during the month of October at participating Chevron and Texaco stations, generating up to nearly $7.1 million, to help fund eligible classroom projects in local public schools in the following 16 U.S. markets:

- Sacramento County, Calif.
- Kern County, Calif.
- Orange County, Calif.
- Select cities in the South Bay* portion of Los Angeles County, Calif.
- Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties (North Coast), Calif.
- Anchorage and Matanuska-Susitna boroughs, Alaska
- Hawaii
- Multnomah and Washington counties, Ore.
- Salt Lake and Davis counties, Utah
- Ector County, Texas
- Harris County, Texas
- Jackson County, Miss.
- St. Tammany, Orleans, Plaquemines, St Bernard, Lafourche, Terrebonne, Lafayette, Jefferson and Vermillion parishes, La.
- Clayton, DeKalb and Fulton counties, Georgia
- Miami-Dade County, Florida
The Ector County and North Coast Fuel Your School programs were supported with the help of local marketers. Chevron also supports similar Fuel Your School international programs in Canada, Johannesburg, South Africa, and Johor and Kedah, Malaysia. Chevron works with local communities, governments and non-profit organizations to help increase learning opportunities for students and support the development of the social and economic vitality of each community. Over the past three years, Chevron has contributed nearly $100 million for education in the U.S.
