Baker Hughes Announces September 2011 Rig Counts

HOUSTON, Oct. 7, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Baker Hughes Incorporated
announced today that the international rig count for September 2011 was 1,174, down 9 from the 1,183 counted in August 2011, and up 54 from the 1,120 counted in September 2010. The international offshore rig count for September 2011 was 304, down 14 from the 318 counted in August 2011 and down 13 from the 317 counted in September 2010.The last report of rig activity in Libya was for February 2011.
The US rig count for September 2011 was 1,978, up 21 from the 1,957 counted in August 2011 and up 323 from the 1,655 counted in September 2010. The Canadian rig count for September 2011 was 510, up 37 from the 473 counted in August 2011 and up 163 from the 347 counted in September 2010.
The worldwide rig count for September 2011 was 3,662, up 49 from the 3,613 counted in August 2011 and up 540 from the 3,122 counted in September 2010.

About the Baker Hughes Rig Counts
The Baker Hughes Rotary Rig Counts are counts of the number of drilling rigs actively exploring for or developing oil or natural gas in the United States, Canada and international markets. Baker Hughes has issued the rotary rig counts as a service to the petroleum industry since 1944, when Hughes Tool Company began weekly counts of US and Canadian drilling activity. Baker Hughes initiated the monthly international rig count in 1975.
North American rig count data is scheduled to be released at noon central time on the last working day of each week.
