FORT MCMURRAY, Oct. 19, 2013 - At the annual State of the Island Gala, CNOOC Ltd., through its wholly-owned subsidiary Nexen Energy ULC, announced a $460,000 corporate gift to support the sustainability and expansion of MacDonald Island Park. An additional Stadium Suite Naming Agreement has been established for $50,000, bringing the total donation to $510,000.
This new funding, provided through the company's ReachOut program, will go towards ensuring that MacDonald Island Park continues to be a world-class venue for major events and exhibitions, as well as a state-of-the-art recreational facility for all residents and visitors in the region of Wood Buffalo.
"While Nexen has a history of supporting the Wood Buffalo region, this gift is our first major community investment in the region under CNOOC Limited ownership and demonstrates our new owner's commitment to providing the financial support that will continue to build strong, dynamic communities," said Tony Mankowski, Nexen's Vice President of Oil Sands Operations.
In 2010, Nexen pledged $250,000 over a five-year term to fund the Nexen Field House at MacDonald Island Park. The new funding will continue our sponsorship of this Field House, and will support an Activity Field House, a Corporate Box and the stunning Outdoor Performance Stage in the new stadium.
"Nexen is proud to support the region of Wood Buffalo and improve the quality of life in the communities where we live and work," said Mankowski.
Nexen is an upstream oil and gas company responsibly developing energy resources in the UK North Sea, offshore West Africa, the United States and Western Canada. A wholly-owned subsidiary of CNOOC Ltd., Nexen has three principal businesses: conventional oil and gas, oil sands and shale gas.
