KTG Agrar meets the fast growing demand for regionally produced food
- Produce to feed one million people
- Increase to 38,000 hectares to seize additional marketing opportunities
- Regional brand concept presented at Fruit Logistica and BioFach
Hamburg, 4 February 2013. For the past two years, KTG Agrar AG, one of the
leading agricultural companies in Europe, has focused on extending its
value chain from the cultivation and refinement of its own produce to
delivery to the final consumer. The company thus satisfies the fast growing
demand from German consumers for regionally produced food. In February, the
KTG Group will present its regional brand concept together with many
conventional and organic products at the Fruit Logistica show in Berlin and
the BioFach exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany.
KTG Agrar continued to expand its key resource for the production of
high-quality food - its farmland - in 2012. 'Our 'Agriculture needs a Home'
concept again helped us to win new land and businesses in 2012. We produce
a wide range of over 20 types of fruit and cultures on some 38,000
hectares. Maintaining a natural crop rotation is an integral element of our
sustainability strategy,' says Ulf Hammerich, KTG Agrar AG's Board member
in charge of the farming department. The large area of farmland allows the
company to supply food retailers directly with large homogeneous quantities
of its high-quality products.
For 20 years, the KTG Group has been the pioneer in large-scale organic
farming. Managing some 15,000 hectares of organic farmland, the Group will
continue to fully rely on sustainable farming going forward. Top priority
is attached to an optimum selection of farming regions and
resource-efficient production techniques. Freshly harvested vegetables such
as potatoes, onions and carrots are offered under the 'Erde-Gold' brand. In
addition, FZ Foods AG - a KTG Agrar subsidiary - has successfully
positioned itself in the growing product segment of conventional and
organic frozen foods. The range comprises potato products, ready-made meals
and frozen vegetables for retailers and wholesalers. Microwave trays have
only recently been added to the range. FZ-Foods, which also comprises the
'Frenzel' brand, ranks among the leading suppliers of frozen food in
Germany. The KTG range also includes convenience products. For example, the
'Dinner for one' line marketed under the 'Erde-Gold' brand comes in an
upright microwaveable pouch. KTG Agrar's integrated business model covering
the entire agricultural value chain, its growing range of foods and its
focus on regional production are in tune with ongoing demographic changes
and permit the company to tap into new target markets - from nutrition
conscious 'quality eaters' to single-person households.
The 'bio-zentrale' brand was added to the KTG portfolio at the beginning of
2013, marking the Group's step from spelt and wheat growing to producing
muesli, different flours, oat flakes, vegetable oils and many other
high-quality products. 'We aim to offer our customers tailor-made,
high-quality products. This is why we have specific offerings for
particular target markets, such as 'BIOKIDS' for children and the
'Mühlenbach' brand for particularly demanding consumers,' says Siegfried
Hofreiter, CEO of KTG Agrar AG.
Going forward, the growth strategy of KTG Agrar will focus on the
production of agricultural commodities. Says Siegfried Hofreiter: 'Farmland
is a key resource and will remain our No. 1 investment target. What is
more, our strategic positioning as a 'single source supplier from the field
to the plate' is a unique proposition in Europe.'
February will see the KTG Group exhibit at:
Fruit Logistica, Berlin, 6 - 8 February 2013, Hall 21, Stand C08
BioFach, Nuremberg, 13 - 16 February 2013, in Hall 9, Stand 243 // Halle 6,
Stand 234.
